MACL have stated that once the second runway of the airport is developed more than 150 jets can be parked at once.
In a ceremony held this morning at Velana International Airport to initiate the runway development project, officials from MACL said that when they expanded the apron, more than 50 jets were able to make in the peak period. The official said that with the second runway, jet parking capacity will increase thrice.
The second runway will be 200 meters longer and 25 meters wider than the current runway. The tourism industry will develop with the second runway because largest airplanes in the word can land at the airport. In addition, the modern airport itself will promote the country.
Once the second runway is completed 150 jets can be parked at once!
