Well done MACL. Today you showed us what our forefathers did to develop the airport 50 years ago.
It would be great if we can show how our forefathers worked voluntarily without expecting any returns using their own tools.
Today MACL showed things that people under the age of 60 will not remember. Since there were no TV channel those days most people did not witness these great events of history. Well done everyone who organized this item, especially the MD of MACL Adhil Moosa.
Giving away Velana International Airport to foreigners is like giving away the minaret of Friday mosque to foreigners. That is not something a true Maldivian would ever want to see. Velana International Airport was developed with the participation of Maldivians from all islands. It is a good example of social responsibility.
“ I was just 6 years old when the airport was developed. Since I lived in his island, I did not witness the actual construction work. What I remembers is that, when the people who were assigned to take part in the airport development work visited his house asking for construction tools, my father gave it to them.”
“When the people of Male’ visited Hulhule’ to see the landing of a jet, and when the I had no money to pay for the “sea king” I swam to Hulhule’ from Male’ just to see the jet. I went back to Male’ via the “sea king” after paying 50 Laari. Those days even one Rufiyaa was a lot and hard to spare.”
The flight that landed was the size of a small sea plane of today. Only 4 passengers arrived on that plane. When the second runway is completed, the largest planes in the world can land at the airport and hundreds of passengers will arrive from a single flight.
Well done MACL ! You showed us the hard work done by forefathers to develop the airport!
