Many MDP members in the parliament are supporting the F.Atoll project. There is no MP in the parliament which represents an organization called MUO. Hence, there is no one in the parliament that can implement the decision made by the shadow cabinet of MUO.
Among MDP members, one of the most knowledgeable in economic matters is MP for Kommandoo constituency ADK Nashid. Speaking at the parliament committee yesterday Nashid said that he fully supports the F.Atoll project. He said that there is no reason they should stop a group of people who are bringing in 1 billion dollars as investment.
Nasheed said that everyone should welcome such mega projects. He noted that this project is of a scale that Maldives has never seen before.
The leader of MDP parliament group is MP for Hinnavaru constituency Ibrahim Muhammad Solih. Speaking at the financial committee of the parliament, Iboo said that MDP is not trying to stop the F.Atoll project. He said that they just want more information regarding the project.
The shadow cabinet of so called MUO met yesterday and passed a resolution to stop the project at any cost. However, no parliament members are in this shadow cabinet of MUO. So it is questionable how they plan to implement this decision of theirs.
Yesterday they revealed what they can do. They can definitely use the foreign media connected to them and spin stories about Maldives so that the investors will hesitate to invest in Maldives. Even if they don’t announce it, this is nothing new. This is a tactic they always do and there is nothing new they can do to harm the economy of Maldives.
