State Minister for Education, Dr.Nazeer have said that the biggest change brought by the government to the education system of the Maldives was changing the system based on the standards of the students.
Speaking at a ceremony held today, to publish the research results after conducting exams in 2015 and 2016 to check the standards of the students, Dr.Nazeer said that the work done to increase the pass percentage in O’level exams is successful. He said that last year’s results were better than the goal set by the government.
“Last year 70 percent of the students passed in 5 or more subjects. The government’s target was to make it 60 percent. Hence it is 10 percent more than the government targeted” said Dr.Nazeer.
Dr.Nazeer said that the exams conducted to check the standards of students now consider 40 percent of the exam for academic skills and the rest is based on other skills.
In addition, he said that to improve the results in O’levels pass percentage in primary grades should be increased and for that the government is undertaking a lot of work. He said that this work is given a lot of priority by the education ministry.
