Dr.Ashraf Abdul Raheem, a well-known linguist have said that special attention should be given to the Dhivehi language and it should be promoted.
While delivering a lecture at the public lecture series organized by Civil Service Training Institute, Dr.Ashraf said that Dhivehi language can be promoted by promoting Maldivian culture and traditions.
Speaking about formation and eradication of languages, Dr.Ashraf said that even though there are Dhivehi nouns for things that are found in Maldives usually, these nouns are not taught to the younger generations as it should be done.
In addition, he said that Dhivehi language is very rich, but the richness of a vocabulary is dependent on the work done to promote the culture and traditions.
