Construction work of the Islamic Center to be built in Ungoofaar in the memory of Dr.Afrasheem Ali has been contracted today. The total project costs 25 million Rufiyaa. This is the third Islamic center to be developed in Maldives and the first to be built in north Maldives.
The project was officially contracted in a ceremony held at the Islamic Center this morning. The Islamic center will a mosque with a capacity of 1000 people.
Islamic Minister Dr.Ahmed Ziyad Baqir said that this Islamic Center is being built in the memory of Dr.Afrasheem Ali. The minister said that hence this will bring great happiness to the family of Dr.Afrasheem Ali and the people of Ungoofaaru in general. In addition, the Islamic Center will have a library and Quran and Islam will be taught from the center.
The president announced the plan to develop the Islamic center during the ceremony held to open the Ifuru Airport last year. Speaking at the ceremony, the MP for Ungoofaaru constituency Jaufar Dhaawood said that this Islamic Center is a huge gift by President Yameen to the people of Ungoofaaru. He said that this will allow to spread Islamic knowledge and promote Islam. During the ceremony, Defence Minister Adam Shareef Umar talked about his close relations with Dr.Afrasheem Ali and also talked about the benefits of the Islamic center.
