Drug Enforce Department of Maldives Police Service has destroyed huge amounts of narcotics that were seized in various operations. They were destroyed in Dhoonidhoo with the supervision of the special committee formed to oversee the destruction of drugs seized in police operations.
Police destroyed 20.68 kilograms of heroin, and 1.25 kilogram of cannabis. These drugs were seized between 2004 and 2008. In addition, other items that were destroyed includes, plastic bags and other materials that were used to pack the drugs.
Police continues to destroy drugs and alcohol seized during various operations. So far this year, police has destroyed alcohol and drugs several times.
