Griffon Energy Corporation of Malaysia has been contracted with developing domestic airports in 5 islands.
The 5 islands are Hdh.Kulhudhuhfushi, Sh.Funadhoo, F.Nilandho, Gdh.Maavarulu and Gdh.Faresmaathodaa. The total project costs 57.7 million dollars.
In a ceremony held at tourism ministry this morning, tourism minister Moosa Zameer signed the contract on behalf of the government while CCO of Griffon Energy Corporation Deak Quinten signed the contract on behalf of the company.
Speaking at the ceremony, the minister said that the 5 airports will be open for operation in October 2018. He said that the most challenging would be the airport planned for Kulhudhuhfushi because the airport will have to be developed by reclaiming wetlands in Kulhuduhfushi. He said that the airports in Nilandhoo and Faresmaathodaa will be developed by reclaiming land. The airport of Maavarulu will be finished this year according to the minister.
Airports are being developed in, Kulhuduhfushi, Nilandhoo and Faresmaathoda for the first time. Previously Moving International was contracted with developing an airport in Maavarulu, but the contracted was nullified because they went against the terms of the contract. In addition, Funadhoo Airport was also contracted to Araam Travels a Maldivian company before.
