President Yameen has assured that the government will pave way for women to engage in any work they desire. He made this assurance in a ceremony held this morning to mark international women’s day. The ceremony was attended by first lady Fathimath Ibrahim, Vice President Abdullah Jihaad, cabinet ministers and senior government officials.
Speaking at the ceremony the president said that the work women do at home are unpaid work, this work is invaluable and that it is the foundation of economic and social development of the country.
Speaking in this regard the president highlighted the work done by President Muhammad Ameen to empower women. He said that it was during Muhammad Ameen’s government where women got the opportunity to study. He said that Muhammad Ameen got the honor to start empowering women in an official capacity.
The president said that, a man’s standing in the society can be seen by how he treats the women in his family and the society. He said that if men live by this motto then they will assist women in their work.
In the ceremony, Rehendhi award was given to notable women in Maldives. Four women got this award and it was handed over by President Yameen and First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim.
