Family and gender minister Zeneesha Shaheed Zaki have stated that, not only the work of women in high positions should be celebrated but work done by women who work at home and who are involved in other types of work should be celebrated.
Speaking at the ceremony held at Dharubaaruga this morning to mark international women’s day Zeneesha said that all sorts of work, if it benefits the society should be celebrated. She said that women with high qualifications are increasing but women at leadership positions are still less. She said that it should be changed and she said that today’s educated women are tomorrows mothers.
Zeneesha said that some of the cases lodged at the ministry include child abuses cases and that it should be stopped no matter how. She noted the priority given by the government of Maldives to promote gender equality in Maldives. Especially she highlighted the work done by President Yameen and First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim to empower women. Zeneesha said that the recent “Heevaagi Kanbalun” fair was an exemplary work done by the first lady to empower Maldivian women.
