Economic Minister Muhammad Saeed have said that the government will not lease islands of Maldives like a gamble, and that the government will lease the islands in a transparent manner only after ensuring that investments will be made in the islands.
Speaking at the ceremony held by PPM last night to announce their candidates for Male City Council, the minister said that in the past there were islands leased in this manner and still has not been invested.
He said that the government will conduct the F.Atoll project in a transparent manner and it was president Nasheed and Maumoon who leased islands to different people secretly. He said that hence the people of Maldives should say no to the activities conducted by Maumoon and Nasheed to destabilize the country.
“Which government brought progress to the construction sector by 50 percent every year for 3 consecutive years? Which government created 63,000 jobs? Which government brought 2.5 billion dollars as investments for the tourism sector in three years?” said the minister.
He said that President Maumoon and Nasheed are envious of the current administration because President Yameen is achieving what they failed to do. He said that they cannot bear to look at the country being developed, after they wasted the chance they got to develop the country. He said that the government will develop Maldives no matter what. In addition, he said that the result of the work the government is doing is being seen and soon that Maldives will be one of the most developed nations in the world. “GDP will be doubled. The people and the country will be prosperous” said the minister.
