HPA have stated that, so far they have not found swine flu or h5n1 from Maldives.
Speaking to the press HPA stated that, they found h1n1 and so far they found 27 people with h1n1. “This is not new and we have found it recently starting 2 years ago” said an official from HPA.
Dr.Niyaf said that even though 27 people were found with the virus, so for there has been no life threatening illness. He said that for now it is not important to close schools now and what is important is cleanliness. He further said that this virus is not that dangerous if the person who gets it does not have an existing illness. However he said that it is important to seek health care.
Dr.Niyaf said that at the moment a child is being treated at ICU for H1n1, but the child’s condition is stable and not life threatening. He said that what is spreading in the Maldives now is influenza and that treatment does not have to be delayed due to lack of facilities of any special tests. He said that the disease can be treated with the treatment for influenza.
He said that people should be more aware about the disease and refrain from going to large gatherings. “Not necessary to stay indoors always” said Dr.Niyaf. He said that people die from other types of flus and the situation is not at a state where schools should be closed and travel bans should be issued.
Dr.Niyaf said that so far no one has died from Maldives this year from h1n1. However he said that if these types of diseases spread, everyone should be more cautious.
