Deputy leader of JP, Dr.Hussain Rasheed have said that they are against delaying the elections unless there is a medical emergency.
Speaking to the press Dr.Hussain Rasheed said that the current influenza that is being spread across the Maldives is a common flu and only few people were positive to H1N1. In addition he said that HPA categorized this influenza at level 3 and it is not the most dangerous level.
Dr.Hussain said that the election has been delayed twice previously and that he does not believe that there was enough reasons to delay the elections back then. He said that if the elections are being delayed because of the flu, then the commission should take into account what HPA has to say as well.
Dr.Hussain also noted that the letter sent to parties by EC to inform about the delay does not ask parties to halt campaigning as well. Dr.Hussain is JP’s representative to the national advisory committee on elections.
