Local council elections which was previously scheduled for 15th April has been postponed to 6th May.
Speaking to the press tonight, elections commission said that the election has been postponed after the advisory committee on elections advised to postpone it because all the candidates are facing difficulties in campaigning due to the ongoing influenza outbreak.
Elections commission stated that 2 parties were against the decision. However the majority of the committee voted in favor and hence election has been postponed.
“Elections can be conducted after giving proper time to campaign. Hence candidates should get that opportunity”
The commission said that even though the election has been postponed, there will be no change in candidate lists and no new candidates can take part in the elections as well. However, they will allow voters to re-register.
