MP Mahloof who is serving jail time for obstructing the police has started a hunger strike according to his wife Nazra Naseem.
Nazra said that Mahloof started this strike for three reasons. They are (i)not allowing him to meet his lawyers in two months, (ii) not sending him abroad to seek health care and lastly for not allowing him to attend parliament sessions.
“Mahloof is saying that he will not stop the hunger strike unless he is given all the rights ensured to him in the constitution of Maldives. I am worried about it” said Nazra.
Nazra said that correctional service refused to send Mahloof abroad to get an injection for a serious disease and agenda of the parliament is also not shared with him.
In addition, Nazra said that even Mahloof supports the no confidence motion against the speaker of the parliament Abdullah Maseeh and that he welcomes the work undertaken by the opposition in this regard.
