I said that no one will want to handover Maldives to a mafia because no one will want that : Abdullah Riyaz
Deputy Leader of JP Abdullah Riyaz have said that, he stated that he does not want to hand over Maldives to a Mafia because no one will want to hand over the country to a Mafia.

Speaking to the press after Riyaz was summoned to the police office, Riyaz said that police questioned regarding two issues. The first one is that stating that he does not want to hand over Maldives to a mafia, and the second reason is because he has access to a lot of information.

“I said that because even police will want the affairs of the country to be run in accordance with the laws. No one will want the country to be administered unlawfully” said Riyaz.

Riyaz said that even now he has pledged to listen to the people and hence many people including top government officials contact him and inform him on various issues. “It is a constitutional right to obtain information. I do not speak about all the information I receive. I will listen to the people and say whatever I have to say and no one can stop it” said Riyaz.

Riyaz said that police also questioned him saying that he is obstructing official business of the government, but he has never done anything of that sort. In addition, he said that he has been suspected of trying to create instability. However, he said that he has not done anything to destabilize the nation. Riyaz said that he always will remain in the service of the nation and will work hard to find a better way for the nation.

Speaking further, Riyaz said that Maldives was in turmoil when he was the CP and because of the work he had to do, MDP criticized him heavily. “But I did not worry. People will criticize if you are in a position. That is how it will happen and that is not a problem. I do not envy anyone” said Riyaz.

Riyaz said that his phone has been confiscated by the police for three months with a court order, but he is not worried about it. In addition, Riyaz praised the work of the police. “Most police officers are very honest. I want to tell the current CP and other officers to remember that it is the laws that will protect them” said Riyaz.

In addition, he said that many police officers are concerned that the government did not give the increased allowances to the police officers. He said that, many officers rented expensive apartments thinking that they will get the salary with allowance increments.

Riyaz said that he served the police service for 25 years and hence the police see him as a close friend. He said that he did not even want to go out of the police station after he went inside. “I spent all my day in there. I really love that place. I did not even like to go out once I went in” said Riyaz.

Riyaz said that he will bring up issues related to police in the parliament and he is the most suitable person to do it. Riyaz assured that he will not hesitate to serve the nation no matter how many problems he is faced with.
