The government is conducting useful projects- should ensure that there is no irregular financing– Qasim
Qasim Ibrahim have said that the government is conducting useful projects but he said that it should be ensured that there is no irregular financing.

Speaking at a JP gathering last night, Qasim said that MP Ibrahim Muhammad Solih have told him that the parliament received some documents which states that a company proposed to develop new 25 story building of IGMH for 54 million dollars. He said that the project’s current contractors are charging 140 million dollars and that is a difference of 86 million dollars. Qasim said that hence the money lost from this project alone is more than the money lost from MMPRC scandal.

“86 million dollars is a huge amount to lose for a small economy like Maldives” said Qasim.

Qasim said that at the same time the state revenue is decreasing. He said that the revenue from tourism industry decreased and the TGST reduced by 25 percent. In addition he said that while the revenue is decreasing, projects should be done at a minimal cost or else the debts will increase.

He said that it is the responsibility of the parliament to oversee these issues and if parliament members cannot do it, they should resign. Qasim also said that if corruption increases, the debt of the country will increase as well. He asked parliament members to stop corruption and be responsible in doing their duty as parliament members.
