Economic Minister Muhammad Saeed have said that trade and tourism is developing at a fast speed in Maldives.
Speaking to the press at Bandos Island Resort on Thursday, the minister said that tourist arrivals are increasing and as a result number of flights operating to Maldives is also increasing.
“In the past two months, number of flights by sea planes increased the most. Tour operators sending tourists to Maldives are increasing. Goods imported to Maldives are increasing. Developmental projects are going on all over the country. This is the third year since tourism has been the primary economic sector of Maldives” said the minister.
The minister said that while high end tourists and hotels are increasing, financial institutions are lending funds for these ventures. He said that this shows that financial institutions has trust in the economy of Maldives.
“Even now work of 20 resorts is going on. Every resort is minimum 60 million dollars. Financial institutions will lend this much money only when they can they have trust” said the minister.
Minister Saeed said that there are people who spread lies about the economy of Maldives but they are failing because the world can see the real situation of the economy of Maldives.
In addition, he said that all parties will check the validity of such information and it is based on the progress made by the country. He said that the world has trust in the progress Maldives has shown in the past few years.
