Qasim Ibrahim the chairman of Villa Shipping and Trading have said that the government is playing a drama regarding Villa and they are acting against Villa after creating an imaginary problem.
Speaking to the press Qasim said that in a ceremony held by MIRA in 2014, Villa was given an award for paying taxes on time, but only two months after that the government acted against Villa saying that Villa owes 99 million Rufiyaa. He said that no sane person would believe this.
Qasim said that Villa does not owe a single coin to the state and the money the government is trying to obtain from Villa through MIRA is not money that can be obtained justly. He said that he always pays what he owes to the state and he never failed at that. “I always obey laws and regulation. I contributed in developing the nation and in assisting the people” said Qasim.
He said that Villa paid 4.6 million dollars as advance and rent for Elaa and they will have to pay anything else on December 2018. Qasim said that the agreement can clearly prove that this is how it was agreed upon. Qasim said that the case is now in Supreme Court and he does not believe that MIRA can freeze accounts of Villa or take any action against Villa before the Supreme Court reaches a decision. “I believe that I will get justice from the Supreme Court” said Qasim Ibrahim.
In addition, he said that including Elaa and other islands, Villa was not able to start development because of political obstructions.
Even today Qasim said that he is not worried that the government will seize his properties. He said that Allah will bless him with more blessings in the hereafter in exchange for the properties that are going to be seized unjustly. Qasim asked his family and staffs to remain patient during this time.
Qasim also noted that the government confessed during the trial that the agreement of Elaa was annulled without an wrong doings from the side of Villa.
