Tourism Minister Moosa Zameer have said that MIRA does not take actions against companies that owes money to the state in a discriminatory manner.
Speaking to the press at the President’s office this afternoon Moosa Zameer said that MIRA is taking action against Villa Shipping and Trading Company after High Court overruled the lower court’s decision which was in favor of Villa.
Zameer said that even though Villa has appealed the case in High Court, MIRA is taking action against Villa lawfully. He said that the case can be further continued based on the decision of the Supreme Court.
In today’s press conference, there was no mention of the 21 million dollars the state owes to Villa. Among these a case of 17 million dollars is a 12-year-old case.
Qasim noted that, the money was paid as advance fees for three islands. However, Villa did not get any of these islands and did not get back the money paid as advance fees as well.
