Qasim Ibrahim have appealed in the High Court to revoke the criminal court order barring him from leaving the country. Qasim’s lawyers said that he was summoned to the police station on 27th March and was handed a court order barring him from leaving the country till 27th April. They said that they have appealed the case at the high court now.
The lawyers said that since the police have said that they have concluded the investigation, they have no right to retain this order. In addition they said that since it is a constitutional right to be able to move freely, there is no reason Qasim should be prevented from exercising his rights.
Lawyer Ahmed Shafeeg said that Qasim will never flee the justice in any case and he has the capacity to face problems. They said that Qasim was summoned to the police station on Wednesday without any legitimate reason because his voice was recorded even on the previous day. They said that they believe that the purpose of it was to intimidate Qasim by a team of 12 people while Qasim sits alone with only 2 lawyers.
