Deputy Leader of JP, CP (Rtd) Abdullah Riyaz have said that the prosecutor general and the supreme court should order the police to free JP Leader Qasim Ibrahim, like they did for Judge Abdullah Muhammad in 2012.
Speaking at a gathering at Kunooz tonight Riyaz said that a special procedure should be followed when arresting parliament members according to the immunity act and the police did not follow this procedure. He said that hence Qasim’s arrest is unlawful.
Riyaz said that if a parliament members needs to be arrested regarding a criminal case, it is the PG that should request for the court order and the police cannot do it. Abdullah Riyaz explained the impunity act.
According to the impunity act, unless a parliament member is caught committing a crime, the member can only be arrested with a court warrant which the PG should request for from the criminal court or a higher court. Riyaz said that the supreme court, PG, police, and lawyers of police know that Qasim is being held unlawfully.
Riyaz said that any human being can make a mistake but the solution is to correct the wrong once you realize that a wrongful act has been committed. In addition he said that the verdict to detain Qasim cannot be changed while he is in detention and that he calls the government to free Qasim immediately.
