Some opposition members have said that it is not fair to require 42 signatures to submit censure motions against the speaker while it requires only 29 signatures to submit a motion to impeach the president.
The members expressed concerns about the issue in today’s parliament session. AP member Anara Naeem said that the regulations cannot be changed while there is already a censure motion against the speaker.
The opposition noted that the president can be impeached with 57 votes, but the speaker of the parliament can be removed with only 22 members as well. The government MPs said that this amendment had to be brought because the opposition keeps on submitting censure motions against the speaker.
MP for Villi Maafannu, Ahmed Nihaan said that there are important work that needs to be done at the parliament and these work cannot be completed because the opposition keeps filing no confidence motions against the speaker.
