Speaker of the parliament Abdullah Maseeh has refused to put the motion submitted regarding bringing Qasim to the parliament sessions on the agenda of the parliament. The motion was submitted by MP for Kinbidhoo, Abdullah Riyaz.
Speaking about the issue, Abdullah Riyaz said that even previously MPs who are in detention for investigations get to attend the parliament sessions and Qasim should have the same opportunity as well. In addition, he said that it is obvious that Qasim is being detained unlawfully and hence the parliament should investigate it and take action. He said that the fact that the speaker of the parliament decided not to put the issue on the agenda shows how autocratic the speaker is.
MP Mariya Didi also requested the speaker to explain under which clause of the regulations he refused to put the motion on the agenda. However, speaker Maseeh did not answer Mariya’s question. A lot of opposition members raised concern regarding the issue.
