People of Fenfushi have said that their only request is their “flesh” Qasim Ibrahim to be freed from the unlawful arrest.
Speaking at a protest held yesterday at Fenfushi, Qasim Adam from Fenfushi said that in the final round of the election a huge majority of the islanders voted for president Yameen. “ In the first round he got only 6 votes from our island. In the final round he got more than 90 percent of the votes. That is because Qasim requested for it and we did it for our brother Qasim” said Qasim Adam who spoke on bhalf of the crowd.
He said that the price hike in staple food is a huge problem but they have worked hard and bought what’s necessary, but they cannot buy freedom for Qasim.
Qasim Adam said everyone believes that Qasim helps those in need to the best of his capabilities and hence he has the love of everyone.
A lot of people from Maamigili participated in the protest at Fenfushi. The council president of Maamigili, Junaid said that arrest of parliament members unlawfully shows that the constitution is not being followed and not valued at all.
Shihaam Muhammad said that 90 percent of the people from Maamigili also supported president Yameen in the final round and that is because Qasim requested for it. He said that in future they will never support President Yameen.
