Former MP for Manadhoo constituency, Muhammad Thoriq have said that Qasim Ibrahim is an exemplary man when it comes to serving the poor and hence everyone should protest in defence of Qasim.
Thoriq said that Qasim gave scholarships and gave various assistance to poor people. He said that it is an obligation for everyone to go out and protest in his defence on this day when he is in need of everyone.
Thoriq said that he was a draft committee member of the current constitution and hence he knows the constitution very well. He said that no one can be jailed unless that person is convicted of a crime. He said that anyone can be detained up to 24 hours. However, he said that even during this period all rights should ensured to that person.
“But today we see that innocent people being locked up and given much severe punishments than those who are actually convicted of crimes. This is sad” said Throriq.
Thoriq said that the spirit of the constitution is not to convict people of crimes, but to save people from crimes and to treat all citizens equally.
