High Court rules that Qasim was detained unlawfully
High Court of the Maldives has ruled out today that the leader of JP, Qasim Ibrahim was arrested and detained at Dhoonidhoo for 6 days and 19 hours without following the procedures required to follow when detaining a parliament member.

Qasim’s lawyer Hisaan Hussein said that the High Court order to release Qasim noted this. She said that the court requested to detain Qasim saying that he might try to hide evidence and that he is a danger to the society, but they did not provide any evidence to back their claims. Hisaan said that this is a worrying issue.

Qasim was arrested on 6th April at 7:45 pm. Qasim was freed by the High Court at 3:00 pmtoday. Hisaan said that as a lawyer she is concerned that a person got detained “mistakenly” like this.
