JP Leader Qasim Ibrahim’s trial regarding the latest charges against him by the state is going to begin tomorrow. Criminal Court has scheduled the first hearing at 11:30 am in the morning.
According to sources the PG sent the cases to the Criminal Court yesterday. He is being charged for trying to offer bribes, trying to influence someone in something that person has to do in an official capacity, and trying to influence a voter.
Speaking about the charges, Qasim said that he has never said anything other political leaders do not say. He said that he also did not target his speech to a specific parliament member.
These charges are based on televised speech given by Qasim Ibrahim during a gathering held by the opposition coalition. In the speech Qasim asked parliament members who left JP after getting elected to return to JP. A lot of people are questioning why an intelligence report has to be obtained regarding this case and what makes this Qasim a dangerous person.
That night Qasim said that he will still welcome the members who left the party and those who vote in accordance with the party whip line will get assistance from him and other members of the opposition coalition in the re-election.
While a parliament member claimed to have distributed money in bags, it is not known whether the police took any action against him. Also a lot of people note that no action has been taken against the MP who threatened other parliament members during the no confidence motion against the speaker of the parliament.
