JP Leader Qasim Ibrahim’s lawyers have said that since police detained Qasim illegally the investigation they carried out during the detention will not be valid.
Earlier today the High Court ordered to free Qasim Ibrahim since the police did not follow the procedures that are required to follow when arresting a parliament member.
Speaking to the press today, Qasim’s legal team stated that from the High Court’s order it is clear that any actions that were taken based on an illegal order will be invalid. They said that they hope that the PG will also think about this and withdraw this “invalid” charge against Qasim Ibrahim.
In the press conference Qasim’s lawyers highlighted the importance of not arresting people unlawfully and called the government not to arrest anyone without following the procedure. In addition they said that the High Court verdict regarding Qasim’s detention was a perfect verdict and it shows that the work done by the people to make sure that the courts rule justly is becoming a success.
Lawyer Ahmed Shafeeg said that even if a court orders to free Qasim, additional verdicts can be released to make Qasim “disappear from the system” and he hopes that this will not happen.
