JP Leader Qasim Ibrahim’s legal team has noted they are worried that the criminal court might order to detain Qasim Ibrahim tomorrow during the hearings tomorrow. Criminal Court has scheduled Qasim’s hearing regarding the charges filed against him by the state.
In a press conference held at M.Kunooz today, lawyer Hisaan Hussain said that in each hearing, the judge passes a ruling regarding the detention of the defendant but it is not clear how they do it. Hisaan said that no matter what, there is no reason to detain Qasim Ibrahim until his trial is over.
Lawyer Ahmed Shafeeg said sometimes when people are released from superior corts, police take a second warrant and arrest them. “I hope they wont do do this to Qasim.”
In addition to the lawyers a lot of other people are also worried that it is possible that he might be detained tomorrow.
Qasim said that even if he is detained there will be a day on which people on the righteous path are victorious. In addition, he said that he does not believe that the courts of Maldives are unjust. He said that the order by High Court today is proof of that.
