Maldives is open for foreign investments without any exceptions : President Yameen

President Yameen said that Maldives is open for foreign investments without any exceptions.

The president made this statement while speaking at the opening ceremony of the ambassadors’ conference that began today. President said that while a lot of investments are being made in the tourism sector since a long time ago, there are many other opportunities for investment in Maldives and these opportunities should be marketed.

The president said that since Maldives graduated from the least developed countries list, Maldives does not get assistance as much as before. However, he said that Maldives still can get assistance by showing vulnerability of the nature of Maldives.

President said that the government has built 19km of sea walls in various islands to protect the islands. He said that the world should be known that the government alone cannot do it. President said that while some people should be relocated from their native islands, the 150,000 housing units developed in Hulhumale’ can be used for that. Hence Maldives needs soft loans to develop flats and even now Maldives has requested for loans from Japan.

In addition, President Yameen said that it would be the ambassadors that can reveal the real situation of the Maldives to the outside world and requested them to work to get more assistance from around the world.

President noted that even now organizations like the World Bank assists Maldives in solving problems related to the environment.
