Addu investment forum has begun. The purpose of the forum is to facilitate guest house ventures in Addu City.
The forum is organized by Maldives Integrated Tourism Development Corporation. The forum is being held at Equator Village and was officially inaugurated by tourism minister Moosa Zameer this morning.
Zameer said that today is an important day in the history of Maldives because in Addu's history an investment forum has not been held so far.
Zameer said that under this project guest houses will be developed in 6 areas and that they will have 25 rooms each. In addition he said that the cost of these guest houses will not go above 250000 dollars.
He said that as a result a lot of jobs will be created and the youth will have the opportunity to earn income from their islands. "Many people from Addu are serving in the tourism industry but they work outside Addu" said Zameer.
He said that this project will be the largest project ever to be conducted in Addu and airlines operating to Addu will increase as well.
The guest houses developed under this project can be owned by private individuals.
In addition Zameer said that acquisition fee for one of the tourists resort to be developed has already been paid.
He said that even though Addu is the second most populated City in Maldives Addu has been ignored by previous administrations. He said that what we see today is the result of the special priority given to Addu by President Yameen.
