Abdullah Riyaz’s lawyers have said that the court order did not request for the pin code of Abdullah Riyaz.
JP Deputy leader and former CP Riyaz’s lawyers said that Riyaz refrained from giving the pin code to the police because the court warrant did not ask for the pin code. Riyaz is being charged with obstruction to carry out the duty of a law enforcement officer because he refused to give his pin code after police confiscated his phone on 27th of March. In the previous hearing of his trial Riyaz gave the pin code to the police.
Riyaz’s lawyers asked many questions from the prosecution. They asked whether the court warrant, orders to give the pin and whether the stated requested for a warrant to get Riyaz’s pin as well. In addition, they asked whether the courts have the legal authority to request for the pin code.
The prosecution said that even though the court order does not specifically mention the pin code, it ordered to facilitate the police to check all the information on Riyaz’s and hence it obligates Riyaz to give the pin code as well. The prosecution agreed that there is no legal clause that says that the court can force someone to give the pin code.
Hearings were held on last Thursday and even today. Another hearing has been scheduled for tomorrow while police are investigating another case of Riyaz.
