Chief of Defence Force Major General Ahmed Shiyam have said during times of crisis, it is only the army that cannot runaway and hide.
Shiyam made this statement while speaking at the official ceremony held to mark the 125th anniversary of MNDF. “Except the army, everyone can opt out from duties. But the army does not have this choice. They cannot handover their responsibility to any other party” said Shiyam.
In addition, he said that each commander has huge responsibility since they have to make decisions in life and death situations because each soldier has pledged to defend the nation and the people with their lives. He said that for this region the soldiers should be full of integrity.
Shiyam said that even though the soldiers are human just like everyone else, what is different about them is their discipline.
He said that they should follow their discipline no matter what they do and advised them to follow rules and regulations always.
