Judiciary can be reformed when the people are ensured that the government does not influence the judiciary : Dr.Abdul Majeed

Former Islamic Minister, Dr.Abdul Majeed Abdul Baary have said that the judiciary can be reformed only when the people are ensured that the government does not influence the judiciary.

Speaking at a rally held at M.Kunooz last night, Dr.Majeed said that the judges who gets various benefits including the assurance that they will remain in jobs till they reach 70 were removed by the government within 24 hoursand the judges were threatened by it. He said that this is proof that the government influence the judiciary.

Dr.Majeed said that just trials can be conducted when all state institutions including the courts work together for it. He noted that the role of the parliament is huge in it. He further said that Allah commanded to be just when giving out verdicts and hence it is obligatory for the state to conduct the affairs of the judiciary justly.
In addition, Dr.Majeed talked about implementing Qisaas. He said that it is part of the shariah but can only be implemented when there is beyond reasonable doubt that one is guilty of killing another person. He also questioned what enmity Humaam (the man convicted of killing Afrasheem) would have with Dr.Afrasheem. He said that it is more important to find the people who arranged it.

Dr.Majeed said that implementing death penalty on Humaam would result in the loss of important evidence related to the crime.

Dr.Majeed also raised concerns about the increase in murders in Maldives. He said that the prophet said that spilling the blood of another human being is a bigger sin that smashing up the Kauba. He noted that importance of bringing the preparators of these crimes to justice.
