Former Islamic minister Dr.Abdul Majeed Abul Baary have said that when there is no one to investigate the illegal detention of an individual, it shows that the legal system of the country has failed.
Dr.Majeed said that since the High Court ruled that Qasim was detained illegally for 6 days with an unlawful court order, then all those who were involved in it should be investigated. He said that the person who issued the court order and the person who ordered to detain him should be investigated.
In addition, he said that there are many institutions created under the constitution to investigate cases like this but so far no institutions have taken any action. He said that, it shows that the institutions have failed in carrying out their constitutional duty.
Dr.Majeed said that institutions failing to carry out their duty is one of the most dangerous situation a country will face. “Hence Maldives is now in that dangerous situation” said Dr.Majeed.
He also said that all religious scholars have a duty to promote righteousness and speak the truth when country is in this situation.
Showing evidence from the Quran, he talked about the people of Bani-Israel. He said that Allah revealed such stories in the Quran so that humans has to think and act upon it.
