India can increase shares in Maldivian trade: Ambassador
Indian Ambassador to Maldives Akhilesh Mishra have said that at the moment India has very little share in Maldivian trade and India has potential to increase India’s share.
Speaking to the Indian businessmen that came to take part in the Happy Ramadan Baazar, the ambassador said that Indian shares in Maldivian trade is below 200 million dollars out of the annual 2-billion-dollar worth trade conducted in Maldives. He said that Indian’s should work to increase their share.
In addition, he said that India has the closet geographical proximity to Maldives and hence India should make the best use of it.
Furthermore, he said that even though Maldives is a small country there are many things India can learn from Maldives. He said that while Maldives does not have even a population of 400,000 Maldives is able to get 3 billion dollars as revenue and 1.3 million tourists visit every year. He said that Maldives is able to do this because of the way things are managed.
The ambassador said that Maldivian care more about quality than price and hence quality goods are needed for the Maldivian market. He said that he believes there is a lot of potential to increase exports to Maldives from India since India manufactures high quality goods and sells at affordable prices.
