Defense Minister Adam Shareef Umar have said that the government has made a regulation that prevents construction companies from accommodating laborers in places that does not reach minimum safety standards.
Speaking at a function held at Champa Central to celebrate World Day for Safety and Health at Work, the minister said that fire accidents and other accidents occur because people are accommodated in places that does not meet safety requirements.
The minister said that when companies bring in laborers, as soon as they get a project the attention given to accommodation is less and as a result problem increase. In addition, he said that not prioritizing the work place safety standards does not affect the workers only but it affects the companies as well. He said that, safety is always important no matter what. In addition, he said that safety equipment should always be close by. Furthermore he said that working with safety precautions is something that should have been done even before but starting it even later is a huge development.
“Human resources are the most important in any work. So high priority should be given for safety. Always it is important to work for human development and safety” said the minister.
Adam Shareef said that the President has a special vision to develop the country and it is the workers that color this vision. He said that without them projects cannot be carried out.
