Ungoofaaru council has decided to provide electricity for free in Ramadan to all the households of Ungoofaaru.
In a meeting held by the council yesterday, the council made this decision because the expenses will be high in Ramadan compared to other months and wanted to alleviate the burden on the people. “Electricity usage will be high in Ramadan. Things will be easier for the people because of this” said the council.
It is estimated that it will cost around 450,000 Rf to pay the electricity bills of the households. Even last Ramadan the council paid the electricity bills of all households in the island.
Many island councils took similar decisions even last Ramadan.
