Criminal Court has scheduled JP Leader Qasim Ibrahim's hearing for tomorrow at 2:00 pm.
His hearing was last held on 5th May. On that day the court extended Qasim's remand by 4 days.
Speaking to the press on that day Qasim's lawyer Hisaan Hussein said that the police could not find any evidence against Qasim and hence the judge ordered the police to find new evidence if they want to extend Qasim's detention.
That means if the police cannot find any new evidence they should free Qasim on 10th May.
Qasim was arrested with a court warrant on 20th April and the court remanded him to 15 days on 21st April.
Qasim’s legal team appealed his detention at the high court and a high court hearing was held on 27thApril. However, the hearing was concluded without reaching a decision regarding the detention. This is the first time the court made such a decision. High Court held a second hearing on 30th April and the court upheld the ruling of the Criminal Court.
People all over the Maldives are concerned that Qasim is being detained in a small cell. People are saying that keeping Qasim in such a small cell is an inhuman act by the government.
