ACC does not discriminate: Lutfy
President of the Anti-Corruption Commission, Hassan Lutfy have said that the ACC is impartial and does not discriminate when carrying out official duty.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the national conference organized by ACC and Islamic University of Maldives, Lutfy said that ACC will always work impartially to carry out their duties. He said that no matter how honest these institutions are there will always be critics, but they have the capacity to listen to these critics.

Lutfy said that even ACC cannot work unlawfully and they should work in accordance with the law. In addition, he said that it is not possible to stop corruption completely in any country. He said that however, the commission will work hard to stop corruption in Maldives.

“ACC has been given important obligations through the constitution. People will criticize us for questioning some people. Sometimes we get criticized for not investigating some cases. Even this year we have investigated more cases than the cases submitted to us” said Lutfy.

Even if Lutfy said this, the people are worried that ACC failed to investigate the MP who claimed to have distributed bags of money. Police stopped investigating the case saying that ACC is investigating the case. So the case is under DEAD LOCK by ACC.

Hence ACC needs to gain trust of the people. The people are not interested in seeing a specific outcome in cases but they want the cases to be completed. If they are taking more than a year just to investigate a case where someone has confessed to corruption, then one must ask what they mean by integrity and honesty.
