Indian Cultural Center has displayed cultural dresses of Maldives and India.
The event was inaugurated by Defense Minister Adam Shareef’s wife Zeenaz Adam. During the opening ceremony, she spoke about the close relations between Maldives and India and also about the cultural similarities between the two countries.
Zeenaz said that Indian assists Maldives the most and Maldives always receive Indian assistance. She also said that there are similarities in how Maldivians and India dress. She said that even now, formal attire is very similar to Indian styles. She noted that those who wear hijab in Maldives wear modern styles of Hijab. Zeenas gave a small introduction of how clothing styles evolved in Maldives.
Indian Ambassador’s wife Reeti Mishra gave a small talk on how clothing styles in India evolved. Reeti noted that even now the most special clothing is the one made from hand-woven materials. She said that the father of this practice, was Mahatma Ghandhi.
Some fashion designers of Maldives designed clothes for today’s event.
