Sulthana Award 2017 has been awarded to Aishath Shifaa Naseer. Shifaa was given this award by WEAM an organization working for women empowerment. In a ceremony held last night at Hotel Jen, the award was given to Shifa by the Legal Minister Aishath Azimaa Shukoor.
In addition, the First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim was given Sulthana Honorary award for the work she is doing to empower women. Furthermore, the organization gave awards to several others who helped the organization in the past year.
Speaking at last night’s ceremony, the chairperson of the organization, Shaaira Saleem said that they want to empower women to engage in more and more economic activities and that they will help any woman. In addition, she said that instead of working alone at home women should join the organization and work together so the benefits will be more.
Speaking at the ceremony, Azima Shukoor noted that more women should be active in business and politics. She encouraged women to join these sectors.
WEAM works to promote businesses of women in Maldives and abroad. They also provide various training related to trade and commerce.
