JP Leader Qasim will abide by the conditions set by the criminal court before freeing him from police detention.
He never went against any lawful order or engaged in any unlawful activity. If we look at his whole life, we can see that Qasim gave a special consideration to the judiciary and the security services.
Even in this year’s parliamentary debate on the annual state budget, he advocated for an increase in the judiciary’s budget. Every year he continues to do this. “Things will not reform without providing the necessary resources” says Qasim.
A lot of people are worried about the conditions set by the criminal court for freeing Qasim. Some lawyers say that some of these conditions are unlawful and no court can issue such orders. Not only Maldivians, even the international community is concerned about this. Foreign organizations are closely monitoring the situation. They are checking how much the constitution of the Maldives allows to limit individual freedoms and liberties.
