Legal Affairs minister of President’s Office Aishath Azima Shukoor have said that everything that is permitted in other countries cannot be permitted in Maldives and that it should be accepted.
Speaking at an award ceremony held by WIAM last night, Azima said that democracy is not allowing everything that is permitted in other countries in Maldives as well. She said that every country will determine what is lawful and unlawful in their own countries on their own.
She said that what is forbidden in Islam cannot be permitted in Maldives but many of these things are permitted in other countries.
Some people have said that, the concerns of the Maldivians are different. People are saying that apostates are very few in Maldives and it is useless to talk about people wanting to permit things which are forbidden in Islam.
“People want Islamic shariah to be implemented. People want those who commit adultery to be punished as ordered by Allah. People want the hands of the thieves to be cut. People are worried about the limited work done to raise awareness about the religion” says a lot of people.
Meanwhile, the participants of the national conference on anti-corruption also noted these problems. What people want is very different. People want the governance system that was sent to us by Allah. That is creating justice among every one. People don’t want the laws and regulations of Maldives to change based on who it is applied to.
