Legal Minister at the President’s Office, Aishath Azima Shukoor have said that every woman will have to do an additional job as a woman, but they do not get an extra salary for fulfilling this duty.
Speaking at the award ceremony held last night by WEAM the minister said that Maldivian women go to jobs and engage in all sorts of economic activities while fulfilling their duties as women as well. She said that even though women are doing these two jobs, they still attain success.
Furthermore, she said that at the moment, it is not easy for women to run and win in public elections. She said that it is a matter of concern while 50 percent of the population are women. Azima said that women should be fully liberated but that does not mean liberated in a western perspective.
She said that women should be empowered to work in self defence and economically empowered as well. In addition, she advised Maldivian women to fulfil responsibilities of the family and to engage in economic activities as well.
