Islamic Bank conducts a special workshop for journalists
Maldives Islamic Bank has conducted a special workshop for journalists. The workshop was about the fundamentals of Islamic Banking.

The workshop was held from 14:00 hours to 17:00hours at Post Building on 16th May. A total of 6 journalists took part in the workshop. The workshop was facilitated by Dr.Ibrahim Zakariyya Moosa.

Dr.Zakariyya explained the difference between conventional banking system and Islamic Banking system during the workshop. He also explained the discipline and principles expected of staffs of the Islamic Bank.

“The lowest staff to the highest staff everyone will have good ethics and discipline” said Dr.Zakariyya. He also talked about terms that are not used by Islamic Bank. He said that those include, loan, interest and insurance. He said that the equivalent of a loan is Islamic banking is Muraabaha and the equivalent to interest is profit. In addition, the substitute for insurance is takaaful in Islamic banking system.

All the journalists were given certificates for participating in the workshop and it was given by the MD of Islamic Bank Haaris Haaroon. Speaking at the ceremony the MD of MIB said that the purpose of this workshop is to raise awareness about the Islamic banking system.
