Education Minister Dr.Aishath Shihaam have said that the government pledged to provide 1000 opportunities for higher education but the success is being able to provide more than that per year.
Speaking at the ceremony held at Ghiyaasuhdheen International School to award loans under the 9th round of tertiary loan scheme, the minister said that so far the government have provided higher education loans to 4300 students.
The minister said that the development of the nation depends on the number of people with higher education in the country and what they do. She said that Maldives can compete with other countries only when educated people increase and try to increase productivity.
She said that high education is a high priority for the president. She noted that forming an Islamic University within a short period is also a huge success of the current administration. She also said that the government will soon announce new higher education schemes.
