Stelco have stated that with the new generator, the electric capacity of Male’ will increase by 70 megawatts. They said that at the moment 27 generators are used in Male’.
A Sri Lankan company was contracted with upgrading the generators of Stelco and they have brought a “watsila” brand generator which is a Finnish brand. The cost of this project is 7.8 million dollars.
In 2012, two 8.9 megawatt generators were brought from Germany and added to the existing infrastructure. This whole project is part of the government’s policy to use energy efficiently.
According to Stelco, during peak hours the electronic usage is at 55 watts in Male’.
