A special function has been held at Maamigili Island to celebrate JP Leader Qasim Ibrahim’s freedom from detention and JP’s win in the local council elections.
The function was initiated by the people of Maamigili island and it was held last night.
Organizers of the event said that Qasim’s freedom was a big win for the people. He said that JP winning all the seats of Maamigili council was a big win considering that PPM was saying that JP cannot win a single seat from Maamigili.
The chief guest of the function was Qasim Ibrahim. Speaking at the function, Qasim said that he is thankful for everyone who raised voice calling for his freedom during the time he was detained.
Qasim said that JP and the opposition coalition won the local council elections in major population centers of Maldives and it shows where the support of the people lies.
Qasim said the people has showed the way they need to go forward hence the opposition activities should be strengthened.
A lot of people took part in the function even though it was raining heavily. The celebrations ended with a Dua.
